Grand Blanc Stake Carnival
At our stake center tonight, we attended our stake's carnvial. It was fun! We ate hot dogs, nachos, cotton candy and treats from each carnival game. Lexi had fun doing the bean bag toss, color matching game, cupcake walk, etc. She got a balloon from the missionaries and she got her face painted! Funny story: So, I was giving Chris her balloon so that he could hold onto it, while she went in the bouncy playhouse, and as I was handing it to him, it slid out of his fingers, because he was holding Christine and couldn't get a good grip, so the balloon flew into the air. Lexi watched it as it quickly floated into the atmosphere. Her face was so sad and she started to cry. But then, when she couldn't see it anymore, she looked at us and said, "Mommy, it disappeared! Where did it go?" At this point, her face turned from sadness to fascination. Needless to say, we had to get her another balloon because the sad face returned after we answered her question. Anyways, it was funny. So all in all, I am really glad we went, it was a good time.
Recent Pictures of Lex and Christine showing off their new Bows
Here are some recent pictures of the girls. They are also modeling some bows and flowers my mom ordered for them from a great site called, Piggys and Petals. We got a ton of flowers for them and because she shipped them later than she had previously told me, we got a ton of freebies! In fact, we got more free flowers and korkers than we had purchased! Anyways, they are cute, so here they are, enjoy!
Grandma and Grandpa Glidewell Came to Town
Oh what a treat to have had Grandma and Grandpa Glidewell come visit us in MI for the past four days. We have had so much fun and been overly spoiled! Let me recap the fun we have had.
Tuesday Night: Arrival
On Tuesday, they arrived at night. Christine and I were at the RS annual picnic, one of our quarterly activities that I was part in charge of and had to conduct, when they arrived. So, Chris, Lexi and them got to go out to dinner and check in to their hotel. Then, when Christine and I got home they got back from dinner and we just chatted. They got to meet Christine for the first time and we got to discuss how cute and lovable and fun she is! Lexi received some gifts as well. She got two cute animal puzzles, and a dress up headpiece made of ribbon and tulle. Alice also made Christine a cute blanket. She makes one for each of her grandkids. Lexi's blanket has hearts sewn into it and is yellow, while Christine's blanket is pink with a bear as the design. Super cute! It was nice to welcome them to MI. Then, they went to their hotel and we went to bed, so that we could be refreshed for the next day of fun.
Wednesday: Shopping!
In the morning, I made breakfast, one of my favorite paula deen recipes: Granite Steps Blueberry Coffee Cake. After we ate it, my father-in-law went to a business meeting, and our family and my mother-in-law went to the park. We played on the equipment, threw rocks in the river, and enjoyed the nice weather outside. After we had our fill, and Lexi was tired, we got lunch at Jimmy Johns, took it back to our place and ate it! YUMMO! I am obsessed with that place at the moment. Anyways, then Lexi took a nap and we got to chat with my mother in law about everything and anything. It was fun, she is a fun lady to chat with! Then, after Lexi got up, and my father-in-law was done with his meeting, we all met up at Somerset Mall. It is one of the nicest malls in the area. Lexi loved riding the glass elevator, and going up and down the escalators. While we were there, my in laws took us to Janie and Jack, a cute kid's clothing store. It is my father in laws favorite store to buy things for his grandkids. Anyways, we left that store with a cute outfit complete with socks and a cupcake hat for Christine, a skirt, dress, shirt, pants, socks, jacket and sweater for Alexis! Man, my kids are spoiled by their grandparents! Anyways, I did not complain one bit because they are super cute! After the trip to the mall, we went out to eat! We went to Abuelos, a great Mexican restaraunt. My favorite part was the flan, of course! What a busy, fun Wednesday it was!
Thursday: Thursday was a split day. Chris, my father in law, Zac and Brett woke up super early to go fishing. And, that is where they were for most of the day, fishing. They had a good time and I will post pics of their trip later when Chris returns with our camera. So, while they were having their male bonding day, Alice, mother in law, and I took the girls to the Zoo! We had not been in a while and the weather was perfect zoo weather. It was Christine's first trip to the zoo too! We had fun! Lexi loved going through the polar bear tunnel, even though there were no polar bears only seals. She especially loved playing on the huge playground that is there at the zoo! All in all, we had a great time, just us girls. In the evening, after the guys showered and changed, we all went out to dinner. I wanted to try a new restaraunt, one in which I had not been to, so we went to Bahama Breeze. Man, was it good! All of us, except my father in law, got pina coladas, and they were soooooo good! I am not even a huge fan, but it was scrumptious. We got coconut shrimp to share as an appetizer and then I got this delicious jerk chicken pasta dish with mushrooms and asparagus. Anyways, I could go on and on about the food, but needless to say, it was a good choice in restaraunt, and I cannot wait to go back. Their key lime pie wasn't half bad either.
Friday:
Friday was Museum day. We headed over to Dearborne where we went to the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village. The museum was cool, but we had been there before, so for us, it was kind of a been there done that sort of thing, but the Greenfield Village was super cool. The first time we went, it was pouring down rain and was cold, it was April, so the village was closed. So, that was the highlight of our trip this time. At the village, we got to ride a train, go on a carousel ride, drive in a Model T, ride in a stagecoch pulled by horses, and indulge in some great lemonade and yummy giant chocolate chip cookies! We did tons and we didn't even do everything there is to do. We definately need to go back and walk through the old houses and other things. And, that is very possible now that we have a year membership to the museum. Woohooo! After that, we got spoiled some more. We went to Babies R Us where my inlaws bought us a sit n stand stroller. i am the most excited! now i have a stroller for lexi and christine which will make my trips outside the home much easier! Then, it was out to dinner again. This time, we went to Longhorns. It is steak place and the food there was good. Then, my inlaws slept at our apartment that night.
Saturday:
We all got to sleep in, except for Chris, who had to go to work. Then, we just relaxed, and my inlaws got ready to leave for the airport. Then, this afternoon, they were off!
It was so good to have them spend time with us. we all enjoyed it so much. And, as usual, when family leaves, it is kind of sad. But, in two weeks, we get to travel to AZ where Christine will be blessed and in which she gets to meet the rest of her family, including aunts, uncles, cousin, and grandparents again. So, with that trip to look forward to, this departure wasn't as sad. Thanks for coming guys, we love you, and come back soon!
Note: These are the pictures from my inlaws camera. When Chris, I mean, he just walked in, yeah, I will upload and add our cameras pictures as well in just a moment.

Volcano Eruption
Today I took Lexi to the park. While we were getting her sand toys ready, she asked if her dinosaurs could come with us and play in the sand. I told her they could, and then I had a genius idea! I told her we could make a volcano that her dinosaurs could climb and then we could let it explode with lava! She thought it sounded cool so I packed the vinegar, baking soda and food coloring. I was so excited to do this with her, I thought for sure she would love it! Well, we got to the park, we built the volcano, which was fun, and then I filled the whole with baking soda and then, when the reaction with the vinegar occurred, I was waiting for "oohs and aahs" from Lexi. Instead, Lexi got scared and said, "Turn it off Mommy, turn it off!" She did not like it at ALL! She jumped out of the sandbox and would not return until all the foam disappeared. It was so sad. As you can see from the pictures she was not a fan. Oh well, I guess we will have to try again later when she is older. I love it when things don't go as planned. Leave it to a 2 1/2 year old to spoil the eruption party :)

Lexi's Felt Playhouse
I cannot believe I have not blogged about this yet! Today, as Lexi and I were playing in it, I realized that with Christine's birth and my parents being in town, I forgot to share this! Anyways, my friend, Callie, and I got together on nights for months and worked on this felt playhouse. Callie talked me into it, and I am glad she did, because it turned out really cute and Lexi loves it! It can keep her entertained for at least an hour, which is amazing! It is made of felt and was time consuming! I cannot sew, nor do I really care to learn, so I did most of the cutting and tracing and Callie sewed the pieces together. It was a team effort. The apples, flowers, and garden items are held on by velcro so that Lex can play with them. On the front, I have a brown flower box with no flowers, so my goal is to make some more to go in there. There is actually one flower I made for it, but Lexi hardly ever keeps it in there, she carries it around, so that is why it is not pictured. Anyways, maybe I could add more to the garden too if I am feeling motivated, but all in all it is great and I am glad I made it for my sweetie.

Raspberry Picking
Today, our family went raspberry picking. I am really loving this pick your own fruit business here in MI. It is fun! Let me just say, this was our first fun family outing since Christine has been born and it worked out really well. Christine was so chill in the bjorn and lexi actually picked fruit this time instead of just running around, which she did that too, but the fact that she actually picked some raspberries herself was amazing. Anyways, Chris and I were going to pick 4 pints of raspberries, but after i filled one and Chris filled one, we realized it was long enough and so we just bought two other ones from the stand. All in all, we got 4 pints of raspberries that I have since made a raspberry cream pie with and freezer jam. Unlike strawberry picking, I did not go super crazy, so we don't have a lot left after these goodies I made, which is good. Honestly, I am not a huge raspberry fan, but Chris is, so I am glad we went and did this! I made a collage with our pictures this time, since my friend, Michelle, introduced me to picasa. So, this was my first attempt doing collages and I think it is pretty cute! I need to play more though and create really
cute ones later. Anyways, thanks Michelle for the info on picasa. It is much easier than photoshop! But, today has been a beautiful day and I love it that Chris is on break from school for a while, for this outing was super fun with him and helpful! Fun times.

Christine's Birth Story
Read at own risk! If you get grossed out or thought I shared too much info sorry, but you have been warned!
Everyone told me that each pregnancy and birth are different. Everytime I heard this I would think, okay yeah, how different could it be? well, let me just tell you, for me, this pregnancy and birth was SO different than with Lexi I still had no clue what I was doing. However, I did learn a lot about my body and about birth that I did not know before. Anyways, let me just get to the story.
On July 20th, which was a Tuesday, I started having contractions at 11:30 a.m. So excited, I started timing and wouldn't you know they were coming every 5 minutes apart and growing in intensity. I thought, "This is great, I will be early just like with Lexi, my due date was the 26th." After an hour, I knew I was in labor. But then the strangest thing happened, my contractions started coming every 20 minutes apart and would last for about 4-5 minutes. Now, I knew this was not normal, but they hurt so much that I thought I was still in labor. Well, by 3:30 or so, the contractions hurt so bad I could not bare it any longer. So I called Chris at work, told him to come home so that we could go to the hospital and see what was going on. Chris came home, changed, and we went. After getting admitted, answering the nurses bazillion questions, and getting hooked up to the monitors it showed that I was in labor. The only problem was the painful contractions were not causing me to dilate further along or change my cervix. So there I was being monitored to see if progress occurred. After an hour there was no progress, so I was told to walk around and see if that would do something. well, it did nothing. After being there for 3 and half hours, I all of the sudden felt no pain at all. It was like I completely stopped going into labor. And sure enough that is what happened. My labor stopped completely. I went from having contractions to nothing at all. Needless to say, I was sent home and I cried the entire way to our apartment. I wanted that to be the day SO bad. But, it wasn't.
After that hospital visit, I experienced sharp pains that wrapped around my upper back. It was so unbearable, I couldn't walk. I also got so nauseated that I threw up everything I ate and had no appetite. I didn't understand why I felt this way. well, my loving mom took care of Lexi and the house and everything else, why I rested. Then, I had to wait until my due date, 26th, which was also my doc visit to find out what is going on.
At my doc visit, I learned that the labor I went into on the 20th was defined in medical textbooks as "dysfunctional" labor. It is true labor pains in which causes no result. I also learned that the pains I had after and nausea could be aftermaths of going into this type of labor. Then, I begged to be induced. I really wanted her to come out on her own, but I couldn't take it anymore. I wanted her out! Well, the docs really didn't want to induce me, but after my pleading we set the induce date for four days later, July 30th. My docs thought for sure I would go into labor again on my own before that time though.
Well, the 30th came and with still no baby I was ready to be induced.
So, at 7:30 a.m. on July 30th, Friday, Chris and I arrived at Crittention hospital to, this time, leave with a baby. By the time I actually got hooked up to the IV and the patocin started pumping the time was 9:30 a.m. It took this long because I once again had to answer a bazillion questions and because it took the nurse 3 tries to get the iv in my arm. Man, I already hate needles and she had to poke me 3 times before another nurse came in and finished the job. They each said my veins kept moving, maybe it was nerves, I don't know, all I know is it sure hurt! But after the IV dilemma was over things started taking place. Every half hour the nurse would crank up the amount of patocin being injected. we started off slow going, in fact, I was in no pain for the first four hours, so I had time to update facebook and quiz Chris on his Constitution class. After hours of not making a whole lot of progress, my doctor came in and broke my water to speed things up. Sure enough, that did the trick. After my water broke, things started moving and grooving. My pain went from nothing to uncomfortable to " I need my epidural Now, please, really quickly once that water had been broken. So, I got my epidural in the knick of time, and by the time it was completely in effect, I needed to start pushing. It was weird, I felt like I had to go to the bathroom really bad and I just felt the desire to push. I actually thought I needed to have a bowel movement. when I told my nurse this info, she decided to check me, even though, she checked me 30 minutes before and I still had a ways to go. when she checked me she couldn't believe that I was ready and that I could push Christine out now. So, in came my doctor, an intern, and my nurse. Legs went in the stirrups and I was told to push when I felt like it. So that is what I did. Man, did it hurt this time. I don't remember the pushing part hurting nearly as bad as with Lex, but let me tell you, it hurt this time. I felt like I was pushing forever, but in reality it was about 15 minutes of pushing before she came out. My doc was surprised that it didn't take me that long to push out a big baby. I was surprised it was only 15 minutes, I swear it felt like I was pushing for hours. But, out she came.
After she came out, I felt really weird down yonder. I felt like liquid was just pouring out of me. I also saw the doctor have a look of concern on her face and I remember looking at Chris wondering what was going on. All of the sudden, I was getting stitched up, due to the episiotomy, and I was getting shots in the leg and told to take pills orally. I wanted to know why I was receiving shots in the legs and why I had to take pills, for I knew I didn't have either at Lexi's birth. Well, my doctor told me that I was hemmoraging (sp?) It was called a post partum hemmorage. I didn't understand what the big deal was, but my doctor explained that I was losing a lot of blood and it needed to stop. She informed me that if they could not get it to stop, I would need a blood transfusion. I just remember crying. Chris was taking pictures of Christine, but quickly came to my aide when he overheard the doc telling me this info. I remember looking at him and he looked worried so then I was really worried, for Chris is the calm one in our relationship and he did not look calm. Well, the bleeding continued, so then my nurse started pushing really hard on my stomach and rubbing my uterus to drain the blood if you will and to hopefully stop the problem. Man did that hurt! It hurt worse than labor. Then, the doctor took a metal tool thingy and started scraping out blood clots. I swear I was in so much pain, I remember screaming and crying and wanting to die. It made the pushing part seem like a piece of cake. well, hours later, the bleeding was under control. So, the nurse wanted me to go to the bathroom and see if I was okay to go to the recovery room.
I stood for like 2 seconds and realized it was not a good idea to walk to the bathroom, so the nurse wheeled me into the bathroom, I went, washed my hands, sat back down in the wheelchair and that is the last thing I remembered for a while. I passed out! I came to seeing three nurses around me, talking to me, but I could not hear what they were saying. I felt like I was deaf. I kept saying, I can't hear you, I can't hear you. Well, after 5 minutes I found out, my hearing came back and I now had three worried nurses. They wanted me to sit back in the delivery room bed and call the doctor, but I begged them to send me to the recovery room, for my mom, and Lexi and Chris were waiting for me there. After persuading them, they reluctantly agreed to let me go, but I had to promise I would not get out of bed, for fear of passing out again. I promised. So, I finally got to go to the recovery room and hold my baby 5 hours after she came out.
After that, I was really weak, and on lots of pain medication, so memories are a bit blurred at this point. But needless to say, it was all worth it, for it brought Christine into this world. People have since asked me if the birth was better or worse than Lexi's birth. And now I know why people say every labor and birth are different, because that is exactly what I tell them. It wasn't better or worse, it was just completely a different experience. Parts of it were better and parts of it were worse, but all in all, it was just different.
I can say, though, that recovery has been a lot easier than it was for Lexi. why that is i don't know.
Now, almost two weeks later, life is good. Baby Christine is healthy and happy and I am feeling so much better! I just have to take iron pills to boost my energy level after having lost so much blood, but other than fatigue, i really cannot complain. A lot of women have it way worse than I. Seriously though, all in all, it worked out well and the end result has been fantastic!
Everyone told me that each pregnancy and birth are different. Everytime I heard this I would think, okay yeah, how different could it be? well, let me just tell you, for me, this pregnancy and birth was SO different than with Lexi I still had no clue what I was doing. It was called a post partum hemmorage.
